Individual assignment:
Information literacy program with a sample teaching unit
This assignment is worth 50% of the course. The write-up is due on or before 2nd Dec,
2024 (Mon.). Students are required to upload his/her assignment with the Assignment
Cover Sheet to the Turnitin on Moodle.
1. Learning objectives
1.1. To explore opportunities for promoting the educational role of teacher-librarian
in the school community
1.2. To learn how to develop strategies for effective integration of information and
digital literacy across the curriculum through collaboration and working with
teachers
1.3. To identify effective strategies for utilizing of the wide variety of library resources
in support of enquiry and resource-based teaching and learning
2. Learning outcomes
In the assignment, you should be able to:
2.1. Formulate Information Literacy program for K12 schools
2.2. Embed information and media literacy to school curriculum
2.3. Apply a range of teaching and learning resources to develop information literacy
unit
2.4. Create engaging activities to motivate your students
2.5. Apply suitable web 2.0+ tools to support active learning and collaboration.
You can also use 3.0 tools if you find them fit for the purpose.

3. Assignment Content
Please ensure to use the MLIM Assignment Cover Sheet available on Moodle
when submitting your assignment. There are three main part sof the assignment:
3.1. Introduction
Explain how your Information Literacy program would support teaching and
learning in your school.
3.1.1. How is teaching IL relevant for Inquiry Based Learning?
3.1.2. How would teachers and students in your school benefit from this
program?
3.1.3. How should IL be taught? (Its relation to the school curriculum,
collaboration with other teachers, timetable etc.)
3.2. Develop a plan outlining an IL program relevant to your school. This should
include
3.2.1. A brief description of the group you have designed a program for
3.2.1. The aims and objectives of the plan
3.2.2. The outcomes you would expect for your clients
3.2.3. The elements of your program (IL topics, types of activities you
would include)
3.3. Develop an Information literacy teaching unit focusing on a specific research
topic like recycling, solar system, UNESCO SDGs, Geography of China etc.
The teaching unit will include 2-3 lessons.
4. Description
Information literacy lesson plan might include:
• Teaching goals
• Learning outcomes
• Topic unit set by teacher
• Information literacy unit related to the topic unit
• Intended year groups
• Activities for students
• Resources to support the topic
• Implementing new technologies
• Handouts and /or worksheets for students (print or electronic)

5. Deliverables
Work can be presented in any written or electronic format
• Word document
• PowerPoint
• Google doc or site
• Wiki
• Blog etc.
6. Number of words
The assignment should include 2000 (+/- 10%) words, excluding references and
appendices.
Referencing & bibliography: You should list all sources you used in your assignment.
Use the APA referencing format.
7. Marking criteria
Please refer to the marking proforma from the Faculty.
8. Plagiarism check
APA format (http://www.apastyle.org/) should be adopted as the standard method of
acknowledging and referencing sources in your assignment. The details and examples
