Assessment 1: Research Proposal
Research Proposal Assessment Requirement:
Each student will complete a 2,000-word research dissertation proposal. The purpose of this assessment is to allow the student to (1) demonstrate their initial thinking on the research questions and proposed research approaches, (2) show basic understanding on the relevant academic literature, (3) have a clear execution plan to complete the research project and show their awareness on the potential risks of the project and feasibility, and (4) design a solution to a substantial research problem (preliminary methodology in the proposal) . The proposal must show the ability of the student to complete the project within the available time.
The proposal will include:
• A working title for the project,
• Research background, research question and objectives,
• A brief literature review,
• Proposed research approach and the rationale(s),
• Execution plan on completing the research project, potential risks of the research project and feasibility analysis.
The following are not included in word counts:
• Table of Contents Pages and Cover Pages
• Tables/Graphs- provided these have been imported from elsewhere (correctly referenced) and not produced by the student
• Reference lists/Bibliographies
• Appendices/Footnotes - provided these have been used only when necessary. If appendices or footnotes are used excessively or contain material that should clearly be included in the main body of the essay/report, it is at the markers’ discretion to include these in the word count.
